Daniel Gearing

Solicitor

Daniel qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and worked in Lincoln’s Inn Fields before joining a provincial firm in 2001. He became a partner and head of the litigation and matrimonial department in 2002. In 2024, after 22 years running a law firm, Daniel opted to focus on the law. Working across Litigation; Family; Dispute Resolution; Commercial Litigation and Contracts; Cohabitation Disputes; Employment; Property Litigation; Landlord & Tenant; Contentious Probate and Private Client, Daniel is an accredited Mediator, a member of the Law Society for England and Wales and speaks Spanish.

Described as robust, firm, efficient, straight talking and practical, his Mediation skills give Daniel an advantage and edge when adopting a commercial view. Daniel understands that clients desire a swift and cost-efficient solution, requiring a proactive approach and sometimes unlikely solutions to achieve the right result. Daniel conducts his own advocacy, especially in matrimonial matters. He feels it extremely important that clients have confidence and trust in their lawyer, and continuity of that service at a Hearing. Additionally, conducting his own advocacy avoids duplication of costs and means lower fees for clients.

Daniel has acted in a successful class action for over 250 employees, seeking compensation for breach of contract and misrepresentation in relation to their pension benefits following a TUPE transfer, and has represented clients in several high-value matrimonial financial claims with complicated domestic and foreign assets; including complex pension investments. However, Daniel believes it is emotions and expectations that need to be managed, irrespective of the value of the assets in matrimonial cases.

When not fighting and winning in court Daniel used to race. He has run many marathons (under 3 hours), and raced in so many triathlons (including Ironman in under 13 hrs) that, at the tender age of 45, he needed a hip replacement – so his running days are over. He has swapped his former passion for…well, he’s still working on that. Daniel’s other passion is his role as Provincial Director of Ceremonies which complements his love for food and wine.
